Well that took longer than expected. While negotiations are not completely finished, we have very nearly agreed build costs for our new house and this week signed a letter of intent which will allow ground works to start in two weeks (eek!)

Value engineering continues.
The team have been brilliant, working flat out to drive down costs with cunning plans and practical suggestions. Some are no-brainers, others require some serious thought to make certain we won’t regret it later while a few have been vetoed to preserve our goal for this project.

Finally the wait is over and we now have a cost from our builder! This is an exciting moment for the project. Less excitingly, while we always knew the budget was going to be tricky, it would appear we are miles away from being able to afford it which is a bit of a shock.

So its time to talk money. You’ve all seen the TV and the tricky conversations that start with “so how much will all this cost” and end with some mumbling about savings and how “we’ll work something out”. Obviously our project will be very different and run to budget but as gold taps and a monorail are pricey essentials we do need to give this matter some thought.
